1. Disaster Management Consultant:

To this day, I am haunted by the lifeless, though unscathed bodies of my nephew and niece who died of suffocation under rubble of a collapsed building during the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake. Had they known to cover their airways to protect against suffocation, they would still be alive. Thousands like them; men, women and children, ill prepared, lost their lives to simple mistakes, for which we are all responsible. Consumed by this sense of responsibility, I was not going to surrender to grief, so I resolved to honor this great loss by playing a part, however small, in making this world a safer place.

I did a post graduate diploma in Disaster Risk Management and in 2011, I was inducted as Director Knowledge Management Cell at the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority. Thus, began my career as a Disaster Management student, practitioner, teacher, trainer and more recently a consultant.

3 .Knowledge Management Practitioner:

Though I am not easily frightened by novelty, I did spend the first few months at ERRA clueless about what was required of me as Director Knowledge Management. I interacted with the staff, went through organizational documents and read up on this relatively new field. Later, I also signed up for a comprehensive training by the Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo, in collaboration with Pakistan’s National Productivity Organization, during which my rendition of ERRA’s Knowledge Management Framework was quoted as a model. Encouraged by this development, I authored a document about Knowledge Management in Disaster Management Organizations, with a focus on ERRA. I continue to learn about the various facets of this discipline and also teach it to the best of my abilities.
